Forensic Psychology Services

Forensic psychology involves the application of psychological knowledge within legal, administrative, and institutional contexts. I provide forensic psychology services when psychological questions require careful evaluation, clinical reasoning, and clear communication.

Each service is defined by a specific referral question. The nature and limits of the mandate are clarified at the outset so that the work remains objective, relevant, and appropriate to the context.

Independent Forensic Psychological Evaluation

A forensic psychological evaluation (forensic psychological assessment) may be appropriate when a formal psychological opinion is required in relation to a legal or administrative matter.

Depending on the referral question, the evaluation may include:

  • Clinical interviews

  • Standardized psychological testing

  • Review of relevant records

  • Collateral information when appropriate

  • Behavioural observations

  • Integration of the available information

  • A written psychological report

The purpose is to provide an independent and clinically supported opinion that responds directly to the referral question.

Consultation for Legal and Other Professionals

I provide consultation to lawyers and other professionals seeking assistance in understanding the psychological dimensions of a complex situation.

Consultation may involve:

  • Clarifying psychological concepts relevant to a case

  • Considering trauma and its possible psychological effects

  • Exploring alternative clinical hypotheses

  • Identifying limitations in the available psychological information

  • Helping determine whether a formal psychological evaluation may be appropriate

  • Supporting the development of psychologically informed questions

Independent Review of Psychological Reports

I may review an existing psychological report when a professional requires an independent opinion regarding the quality and supportability of the work presented.

The review may consider:

  • Whether the methods used were appropriate to the referral question

  • Whether the conclusions are adequately supported by the information presented

  • Whether relevant limitations were identified

  • Whether alternative explanations were sufficiently considered

  • Whether the report clearly distinguishes observations, interpretations, and conclusions

This type of review concerns the methodology, reasoning, and conclusions contained within the report. It does not involve assigning a new diagnosis to an individual who has not been independently evaluated.

Areas of Focus

Forensic services may address questions involving:

  • Psychological functioning

  • Trauma and its psychological impact

  • Personality functioning

  • Emotional and behavioural difficulties

  • Child and adolescent mental health

  • Complex or overlapping clinical presentations

  • Psychological formulation

  • Diagnostic questions within the context of a complete evaluation

  • Psychological functioning in legal or institutional contexts

Referrals and Inquiries

Forensic services are considered individually according to the referral question, the available information, and the nature of the legal or administrative context.

Approach to Forensic Psychological Work

Forensic psychological work requires objectivity, independence, and careful attention to the limits of the available information.

My approach emphasizes the integration of multiple sources of information rather than reliance on a single test result, interview, or document. Opinions are framed in relation to the specific referral question and are communicated clearly, with appropriate consideration of alternative explanations and evidentiary limitations.

The goal is to provide a balanced and clinically meaningful psychological perspective that supports informed decision-making.
